Solid brick walls can be insulated internally or externally to reduce heat loss.

Using lids on your pans when cooking will save energy and help heat the contents quicker.

Make sure your pans fully cover the rings on your hob to use all of the heat being provided. Use the right sized ring for the pan you are heating.

Smart controls can help ensure your home is comfortable and energy efficient.

Still using tungsten, halogen or fluorescent bulbs? Changing to LED lighting can save energy and money.

Fitting a new insulating jacket to a bare hot water tank can save over £100 per year. Costing just a few pounds, the investment can pay itself off in a few months.

Switch off radiators in any rooms you are not using regularly and keep internal doors shut to save energy.

Some vulnerable people need to keep their homes warmer than normal. However, most of us can save money and energy by dressing for the weather and putting on a jumper before turning up the heating.

Properly used, dishwashers use less water and energy than washing dishes by hand. However, make sure you only wash full loads and don’t pre-rinse everything in the sink first unless it really needs it.

When did you last test your smoke alarm? Make sure it will work when you need it by testing it weekly. #TestItTuesday
