We believe in supporting sustainable comminities and are proud to be signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant. As signatories, we actively work with other members and the wider armed forces community to support all those who serve.
June 6th 2024 marks 80 years since the D-Day landings in Normandy, France. The invasion, codenamed Operation Neptune began Operation Overlord, the liberation of mainland Europe from German Nazi oppression during World War 2.
By 1944, over 2 million troops from over 12 countries were in Britain in preparation for the invasion. On D-Day, Allied forces consisted primarily of American, British and Canadian troops but also included Australian, Belgian, Czech, Dutch, French, Greek, New Zealand, Norwegian, Rhodesian and Polish naval, air or ground support.
Operation Neptune was finally launched on 5th June 1944 following delays due to bad weather with the first seabourne landlings occuring on 6th June 1944. The operation ended on 30th June 1944 when command of shipping was returned to normal naval command.
Like so many who served before and since, these troops were prepared to sacrifice their futures so that we may all enjoy security and peace. When we were asked if we were prepared to help support veterans returning to mark this 80th anniversary we could only say yes.
Lest we forget!
